the southerly aspect garden becomes the centrepiece for this extension and complete makeover of a charming cottage for a young family in ashley cross, poole.  the brief was to retain the character of the existing dwelling, keeping quirky details such as the large inglenook fireplace and feature windows, while opening space to create a generous kitchen diner with vaulted ceiling, and making the most of permitted development rights in the addition of an 8m rear extension. drawing a little inspiration from derek jarman’s wonderful prospect cottage in dungeness.
