about me

I had the great privilege of being certain of my future career from the young age of 12 when I developed a passion for sketching buildings and plans of an albeit intricate, but rather wild and outlandish nature. numerous periods of work experience at cheshire robbins design group in christchurch followed from the age of 15, where my desire to be an architect crystallised fully. my formal education was at the university of bath, with a period of study at the washington - alexandria architecture consortium in the US.

the majority of my career has been with highly regarded architectural practices in london where my experience as project architect has ranged from very high end residential projects, often in heritage buildings, to multi-million pound education and hotel projects.

returning to my roots in dorset with my family has always been my vision, including a long-held ambition to self-build my own home, now fulfilled. I’m utterly thrilled to have the opportunity to practice architecture here.

alongside my professional work, I have a commitment to architectural education, giving talks in schools and having mentored many university and school students in their progress towards a career in architecture.

“I worked with Peter during my tenure as the Head of Bute House Preparatory School in London. We were attempting to create some new spaces at the school and to do so within a budget, and with a number of restrictions. The physical restrictions of the site required us to create new spaces within the building, rather than building up, out, or next to the site. What Peter managed to achieve was beyond all of our imaginations!

Peter delivered as an architect in every possible way on this project. He approached it from a holistic angle through ensuring he understood what the ultimate aims were. He took time to understand my vison, and that of the senior team, and then worked closely with the staff who would be working in the newly designed spaces.

Staff were extremely appreciative of his ability to listen to them and to really understand their needs, which required combining innovative design with practical solutions. This meant that we knew that the exceptional designs he produced were workable, and we had every confidence that he would make everything happen.

The ultimate outcomes were exceptional and provided the school with some wonderful new spaces, but also a concept design which could then be further developed and extended in the future. The time spent with staff ensured they were delighted with the outcomes; they felt very much a part of the whole project. Peter gave the staff a sense of ownership – these designs were done with them not to them. And everything was on time and in budget!

Peter is an exceptional architect; his technical skills on this project, alongside his calm, friendly manner and his professional approach make him very easy to work with. In addition, his ability to meet deadlines make him someone with whom I would not hesitate to work with again, should the opportunity arise.”

“I want to take this opportunity to extend my appreciation for the dedication, hard work and extraordinary effort you put forth on the recent completion and opening of our St Martins Lane Hotel. Over the last year we’ve witnessed what can happen when the right amounts of inspiration, ingenuity and co-operation unite to create a hotel environment that, once again, proves itself the exception instead of the norm. On behalf of all of us at Ian Schrager Hotels, thank you for sharing your vision and dedicating your very best talents to the success of St Martins Lane. We couldn’t have done it without you.”

“Peter quickly built a very good rapport with the trust and gained an excellent understanding of the issues at hand.  Drawing on this thorough briefing process, he then produced a design which the trust are very satisfied with.  Peter’s assistance has moved the project forwards very effectively towards tender, and in due course to realising our vision for Reach 2.”

Rebecca Cramer,  Director of Education,  Reach Academy Feltham

“We were very  impressed with how effectively Peter engaged with our leadership group to understand our complex and quite bespoke needs.  Over a series of very productive briefing meetings he developed a design which met our requirements extremely well and remained involved to monitor and review contractors’ proposals.  It has been a pleasure working with Peter and we’re very much looking forward seeing our collaborative efforts coming to fruition on site.”

Kay Willett,  Chief Executive Officer,  The Gallery Trust

“Peter was able to transform our plans by suggesting some design ideas that we didn't think were possible with our space. The resulting drawings and CAD designs got us extremely excited and those concepts have now been brought to life by our brilliant builder. We're very grateful to Peter for all his work, and support during our build, and couldn't be happier with how everything turned out.”

“Pete has designed extensions and remodelled several houses for us. Each one was perfectly realised for the style of house, it’s location and our specific needs as a family. Unlike other architects we’ve come across, Pete quickly gets to the appropriate solution whilst at the same time carefully listening and feeding in our input. We’ve had light filled, happy homes that look and work beautifully and haven’t cost the earth to build.”
